POTSDAM — A Heuvelton man was charged with driving while intoxicated following a personal-injury accident on Ellis Road Sunday morning, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
Matthew A. Tabakaru, 31, was charged with first-offense DWI, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, speed not reasonable or prudent, failure to keep right, no seat belt, and unsafe tires, officers said.
Deputies responded to a reported of a rollover accident shortly after 6 a.m. and once on scene officers located Tabakaru trapped inside the vehicle.
He was extricated by West Potsdam Fire Department and transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Potsdam Rescue.
Deputies believe Tabakaru was traveling south on Ellis Road when he lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle overturned and exited the roadway, officers said.
Deputies said Tabakaru was intoxicated at the time of the accident. His blood-alcohol content (BAC) was pending lab results, officers said.
State police and Potsdam Fire were also on scene.
