HERMON – A Redwood man was jailed Friday for allegedly violating an order of protection by repeatedly sending harassing text messages.

St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies charged Matthew J. Merritt, 24, of 572 County Route 3, Redwood, with second degree harassment and second degree criminal contempt.

Deputies said he allegedly sent numerous harassing text messages to the protected party between July 5 and 19.

Merritt was arraigned in Town of Hermon Court and sent to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond.

He is to face the charges in Town of Russell Court on July 18.
