OSWEGATCHIE — Firefighters were able to save a business from being completely destroyed by fire on Thursday evening.
The blaze at Star Scrap Metal and Cars, 718 Irish Settlement Rd., was reported by a passerby around 5:50 p.m., according to Heuvelton Fire Department Chief Travis Wood.
He said the cause is still under investigation.
There was reportedly heavy fire damage but the building is not considered a total loss.
“Flames were visible upon arrival but we were able to knock it down in about 30 minutes,” Wood said.
No one was inside the building at the time of the blaze.
Firemen from Lisbon and Morristown assisted on scene with Morley and Rensselaer Falls firefighters on standby, Wood said.
The building was not insured.
No injuries were reported.
