Hazardous weather outlook posted for North Country as snow, sleet, rain to fall

The National Weather Service has a hazardous weather outlook notice posted for St. Lawrence County and the North Country for today and tomorrow as a warm front brings with some snow for today and tonight, and as temperatures rise, sleet and freezing rain late tonight and tomorrow. Temperatures could get warm enough for plain rain.

The chance of precipitation is placed at 80 percent today, 70 percent tonight, 60 percent tomorrow, and 40 percent tomorrow night.

Snow is predicted to change to sleet late this afternoon, accumulating to perhaps an inch. It is expected to change to rain tonight while winds from the south pick up to 12 to 15 mph with gusts.

It will remain gusty Wednesday, as the rain amounts add up to as much as a quarter of an inch. Highs could top 40 degrees Wednesday.

Wednesday night, lows will dip into the teens, with a chance of snow and light west winds.

Thursday, the sun could make an appearance. Highs will be around 27.

Sunny days are predicted for Friday, saturday and Sunday.

The National Weather Service forecast for the St. Lawrence Valley and the northern Adirondacks:

This Afternoon: Snow before 5pm, then snow and sleet likely. High near 33. Light south wind. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of around an inch possible.

Tonight: A chance of rain and sleet before 9pm, then rain likely. Cloudy, with a low around 33. Calm wind becoming south between 12 and 15 mph. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New sleet accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Wednesday: Showers likely before 11am, then a chance of drizzle between 11am and 4pm, then a chance of showers after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 41. West wind between 11 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

Wednesday Night: A chance of snow showers, mainly before 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 19. West wind between 3 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 27. Calm wind becoming north between 5 and 8 mph.

Friday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30.

Friday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 11.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 30.
