COLTON — The Grasseroots Fund, recently contributed $15,000 to the Friends of Higley Flow State Park, Inc., for their “Sled Shed,” more than doubling the amount raised and coupled with in-kind donations, completing the capital campaign goal.
The fund is a donor advised fund established by Peter and Kathy Wyckoff of Canton through the Northern New York Community Foundation.
The Friends, a volunteer-based, 501(c)(3) charitable organization, groom over 10 miles of trails for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing during the winter months.
The Sled Shed will allow for year-round storage and easier maintenance of equipment used by volunteers to groom the trails and solidify the sustainability of winter recreation at the Park.
In addition to support from the Grasseroots Fund, major contributors to the Sled Shed include the Sweetgrass Foundation, NuMED for Children, Brookfield Renewables, St. Lawrence Health, SeaComm Federal Credit Union, and Frazer Software and Motors.
Major in-kind support was also provided by FCS Engineering and Development, PLLC; S&L Electric; Catamount Ridge Quarry; JC Merriman’s; and Witherbee & Whalen.
Work on the Sled Shed began this summer with NYS Parks providing labor and was recently completed. An official ribbon cutting is planned for the weekend of January 27th as part of the Friend’s Family Weekend.
Donations will still be accepted to offset additional expenses such as equipping the shed with basic tools and maintenance supplies.
