GOUVERNEUR — Gouverneur village police are reaching out to the public to make them aware of what meth labs can look like.
“Village police have previously released information about a January 26th, 2020 incident where mobile meth labs were discovered almost simultaneously at the Stewart Shoppe's restroom and behind the Price Chopper,” a Gouverneur Police Department Facebook post said.
“As a result we would like to provide the public some informational awareness on meth labs and what to look for," the statement said.
Here are photos of some 'one-pot' meth labs which are generally made in empty plastic bottles (Gatorade bottles, water bottles, soda bottles) that appear to have a milky white crystallized substance inside.
Sometimes that substance can appear blueish in color or reddish in color instead of white, the PD said.
"Often with a meth lab you will find these listed items: pseudoephedrine/ ephedrine, lithium batteries, coffee filters, lighter fluid, ice packs, lye, paint thinners/ nail polish remover, drain cleaner, brake fluid, iodine, tin foil, measuring cups, spoons, pliers, and a cooking dish. If you encounter a bottle or container which you believe has methamphetamine inside do not touch that item and call your local law enforcement immediately. An active meth pot is highly volatile and can explode with any slight movement causing severe burns or a release of highly toxic gas. Again do not touch them if you encounter them. Please share this information with your friends and family to keep our community safe and aware,” the post said.
