GOUVERNEUR — A Gouverneur man was charged with multiple felonies
after police discovered an illegal semi-automatic rifle during a traffic stop, according to village police.
Caleb A. Matice, 19, was charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon: Loaded firearm, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon: Assault weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon: Deface weapon, all felonies; officers said.
He was also charged with speed in zone and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, officers said.
Matice was reportedly traveling on Johnstown Street Aug. 26 driving 53 mph in a 30 p.m. zone.
During the traffic stop investigation police discovered that Matice had a suspended New York driver’s license.
Further investigation reportedly revealed that the defendant was in possession of an illegal semi-automatic rifle.
Matice was arraigned in Gouverneur Town Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $1000 bail, officers said.
