OGDENSBURG – An Ogdensburg man has been arrested by St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Deputies for welfare fraud after allegedly illegally receiving $27,063 in food stamps and heating assistance from 2006 to 2009.
Glen A. Colby, 42, 755 Yankee St., Ogdensburg, was charged with third-degree welfare fraud and first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, after investigation conducted by the Investigations Unit of the St. Lawrence County Department of Social Serivces.
They allege Colby failed to report self-employment income for the time period of May 26, 2006 to Sept. 30, 2009 at social services, all the while receiving social services benefits.
He was arraigned in front of Judge Sam Charleston in Potsdam Town Court and released to the supervision of probation.
He is due to appear in Canton Village Court at a later date.
