Generous donors assure ‘North Country Now’ can continue keeping St. Lawrence County informed

North Country This Week
The overwhelming response to our recent fund drive will help North Country This Week and NorthCountryNow.com continue to provide local news reporting about St. Lawrence County.
“Thank you for the great service you provide to our community,” said one donor.“We appreciate you. ‘Democracy dies in darkness.’ Please keep up the good work,” wrote another.
A total of 411 readers donated $19,511 since the fund drive began after the coronavirus threat hit St. Lawrence County and many businesses closed.
While many advertisers continue to use our products weekly, the resulting drop in advertising is significant. This threatens our ability to continue to provide original reporting of local government and schools, police and fire, elections, obituaries and people news you often can’t find elsewhere.
“I look forward to your continuing outstanding news service,” said another contributor. “Thank you for the excellent source of local news!”
The fund drive is one of many initiatives at North Country This Week to broaden our income base to ensure we can continue providing award-winning news and important local information. We are also offering sponsorship opportunities for special pages and subscriptions for readers who don’t want to miss a copy.
Another change is coming to NorthCountryNow.com, which until now has been free, courtesy of advertisers. We will now be asking frequent viewers to subscribe for about the price of a cup of coffee each week. Details are at https://my.northcountrynow.com/
Each month, people can still view 15 North Country Now stories at no charge before being required to subscribe. The home page, classified ad pages and links to other news sources will remain free.
Your financial support will help us continue to pay all employees and allow our reporters to attend nine local government boards, publicize news about your friends and neighbors, publish hundreds of letters from readers each year. We can also continue to provide valuable shopping information as well as employment and real estate advertising. When it is safe for large events to gather, we hope to return our popular day-by-day calendar of events.
“Thank you! I get more information, and in a more timely manner, from you than from any other news source in northern New York,” said a fund drive donor.
We’ve served St. Lawrence County for more than 35 years. With your help and community support, we hope to continue for many more years to come.
