STOCKHOLM -- Four people have been charged following a false report of a burglary in Stockholm, state police say.

On Aug. 6 around 1:35 a.m., troopers say they responded to a residence on Buckton Road, in the town of Stockholm for a report of a burglary. The call originally was reported as being in-progress, where a male suspect had entered the home and damaged property, troopers said.

The occupants inside originally alleged they confronted the suspect, where a brief struggle took place and the suspect ultimately fled the scene through a bedroom window and entered a wooded area located directly behind the residence. Following an investigation, four subjects were arrested after it was discovered they made up the story about the alleged burglary.

32-year-old Justin M. French of Stockholm, was charged with second-degree criminal contempt due to violating a stay-away order of protection by having contact with one of the parties involved, troopers said.

French was arraigned before the Town of Morristown Court where he was remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,500 cash bail, or $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Stockholm Court, troopers said.

27-year-old Janice R. Brothers of Brasher was charged with third-degree falsely reporting an incident and first-degree making a false written statement. She was released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Stockholm Court, troopers said.

50-year-old Michelle L. French of Stockholm, was charged with first-degree making a false written statement. She was released with an appearance ticket to appear in Stockholm Town Court, troopers said.
