MASSENA -- On Tuesday, Sept. 21, state police and the Massena police arrested a Fort Covington man for allegedly stealing a Chevrolet Blazer and later crashing it.
Matthew J. Jacobs, 32, was charged with second-degree burglary, and third-degree grand larceny for allegedly stealing an UTV. He was additionally charged with third-degree criminal possession of stolen property for the stolen vehicle he crashed.
Jacobs was arraigned in the Village of Massena Court and remanded to St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bail bond. He is scheduled to reappear at a later date.
State police reported that Jacobs also stole a 1994 Chevrolet Blazer from the parking lot of Northern New York Auto in Fort Covington on Sept. 21, then crashed it on State Route 37 C in Brasher near the Helena Fire Station. A passenger, 36-year-old Olivia J. Terrence of Akwesasne, was taken to the Massena Memorial Hospital with serious injuries and later transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where she is in critical but stable condition.
State police also reported that Jacobs was determined to have stolen a 2021 Can Am Defender UTV from a residence on North Raquette River Road in Massena on July 18.
Massena police located Jacobs and arrested him in connection with separate investigations.
