CANTON - A former SUNY Potsdam facing a first-degree rape charge appeared Thursday in St. Lawrence County Court for an arraignment.

Jared Hussey, 18, of Rome, was released under his own recognizance. A pretrial conference is scheduled June 21.

The alleged rape took place Dec. 4 on the SUNY Potsdam campus. He is accused of having sex with someone who was physically helpless therefore incapable of consenting. Hussey was arrested by campus police Dec. 8.

Hussey was a student at SUNY Potsdam at the time of the alleged rape. College officials reported he is now longer enrolled at the college.
