Forecast calls for sunny day with temps in 80s in SLC, thunderstorm possible tonight

High pressure over the North Country will bring a return of more summer like conditions today with ample sunshine and temperatures rising to around 80 or slightly above, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

A high around 82 is expected today with sunny skies, NWS says. Showers and a possible thunderstorm after 1 a.m. are in the forecast. The overnight low will be around 65 with south winds at 7 to 13 mph. The chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Drier weather returns Monday, with rain chances increasing again for the middle to end of the week.

The forecast through Friday is as follows:

Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 7am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 7am. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a high near 80. Southwest wind 10 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
