A flood watch is in effect for St. Lawrence County from April 14 at 11 p.m. until April 16 at 8 a.m., according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Before the rain, St. Lawrence County residents will be teated to sunny skies and a high near 63 today, forecasters say. Winds will be southwest at 15 to 20 miles per hour with gusts of 21 to 26 mph.

Tonight the overnight low will be 33 with southwest winds of 13 to 18 mph, the service says.

Sunday will see rain begin after 1 p.m. with a high near 47, NWS says. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent. Rain will likely continue Sunday night and into Monday.

A moisture-laden frontal system will bring widespread rainfall late Sunday through Monday morning, with rainfall amounts from .75 to 1.25 inches expected. In addition, warmer temperatures will increase snowmelt from higher elevations, leading to significant runoff into area rivers and streams, the service says.

A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

People should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
