North Country This Week
MASSENA — The North Country is yet again playing host to a feature film production by one of its own.
Writer-director Elijah Winfrey, Massena, is producing his second feature film in as many years.
This time however, he is tackling the space comedy genre with his new film “Captain Corpse,” a distinctly different genre from his 2020 dystopian action film “Ballad of Billy Badass.”
“Ballad of Billy Badass” premiered at the Ogdensburg Cinema on May 29 this year, following a partnership between Winfrey and Ogdensburg Mayor Jeffrey M. Skelly to show the film.
The film was mired in pre-production for a number of years, with Winfrey beginning the writing process in 2014, according to previous reports.
The project began production during the pandemic in 2020, successfully completing filming despite the numerous hurdles presented then.
Filming is well underway for his new film, “Captain Corpse,” with Lisbon, Waddington and Massena serving as backdrops, Winfrey said.
According to Winfrey, “the finish line is in sight.”
