North Country This Week
CANTON — The town moved a step further on the Miner Street Trail Connector and Canton Island Park Enhancement project with a recent contract approval.
The town board has hired engineering firm Brooks Washburn Architect P.C. of Potsdam for $11,948 to provide professional services for developing safety improvements along the Miner Street Road/Taylor Park Connector part of the project.
The cost of the contract is to be covered by the $529,739 state grant the town and village has received for the project.
The work by the town and village of Canton will be part of the Canton Grasse River Waterfront Revitalization Plan and the Canton Trails Plan, which will enhance Canton Island Park along the Grasse River.
The project will also widen Miner Street Road to make it safer for bicyclists and pedestrians and improve the connection to waterfront recreational resources in Taylor Park.
The Miner Street Road work, the town’s part, will get $272,781 of the grant, leveraging a local share of $100,000.
