State police and Bureau of Criminal Investigation have arrested an Edwards pair for possessing and passing counterfeit $50 bills.

A number of Ogdensburg, Gouverneur and other St. Lawrence County businesses have reported receiving counterfeit bills in recent days.

Gregory S. Lanphear, 20, and Caleb Serrano, 17, are being held in St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility pending a future court appearance, police said.

They have been charged with three counts of first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, police said in a prepared statement.

Lanphear and Serrano possessed and passed the counterfeit bills at business locations and with a private individual for various merchandise on Dec. 13 and 14, police said.

Both subjects are being held in the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility pending a future court appearance.

Police are encouraging local businesses to check their currency for any suspicious bills and to contact State Police in Canton at 379-0012 for further information.
