Edwards man crashes vehicle while driving drunk at nearly three times legal limit, deputies say

EDWARDS — An Edwards man was charged with felony driving while intoxicated and drug possession following motor vehicle accident Wednesday on CR 23, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.

Justin H. Whitmarsh, 32, was charged with DWI: Prior conviction, felony, DWI: BAC higher than .18, felony, officers said.

He was also charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, use of a loaned vehicle without interlock device, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and numerous vehicle and traffic violations, deputies said.

Whitmarsh was reportedly involved in a property-damage accident and fled the scene. Deputies found him a short time later and he was allegedly intoxicated.

Deputies said his blood-alcohol content (BAC) was .22%.

Whitmarsh was also in possession of a small quantity of methamphetamine, officers said.

He was cited and released.
