CANTON -- The Double Up Food Bucks Program from Gardenshare is now available in St. Lawrence County.
The program provides a $2-$2 match, up to $20 per day, for fresh produce purchases when redeeming SNAP benefits at the farmers markets.
From now until the end of the market season, customers redeeming SNAP at a farmers market will automatically receive silver $2 Double Up tokens that can be used to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables at the Canton, Gouverneur, Hammond, Massena, and Potsdam markets.
SNAP tokens can be used to purchase any SNAP eligible product like eggs, cheese, and bread. The Double Up silver tokens can be used for produce only.
The program helps increase affordability and access to fresh produce for low-income consumers, Gardenshare said. The program also helps direct dollars to farmers who sell at farmers markets, ultimately strengthening our local food and agriculture economy, the organization said.
Double Up is a program of Field & Fork Network, a food and farming non-profit organization based in Western New York.
