STOCKHOLM — A police officer with the Ogdensburg Police Department who lives in Potsdam was jailed on rape charges Saturday stemming from a March 1 incident, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies.
Joseph E. Pritty, 25, was charged with third-degree rape, felony, for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a female without her consent due to an incapacity to consent, officers said.
He was arraigned in Stockholm court by Justice Williams and ordered held in St. Lawrence County Jail on $2,500 bail, deputies said.
Ogdensburg officials, asked if there had been any change in his status as a police officer as a result of the arrest, would not comment.
Williams posted bail and is to appear in court at a later date to face the charge, officers said.
An order of protection was issued in favor of the victim, deputies said.
