POTSDAM — The village’s Democratic and Republican parties both held caucuses on July 20 to select candidates for the fall election.
About 35 of the village’s Democrats turned out for their caucus. Two candidates for the village board of trustees were selected. Incumbent Village Trustee Stephen Warr was selected along with newcomer Monique Tirion.
About 5 of Potsdam’s Republicans turned out for that party's caucus, Town of Potsdam GOP Chairman Donald Gruneisen told North Country This Week. The caucus chose no candidates to run for the village trustee seats this fall.
For the town council elections two seats are up for grabs and the Republican are fielding Renee Azzopardi and John D. Meyers Sr. Both GOP candidates are also running on the Conservative line.
Two other candidates are running against them. Allyssa Theobald Hardiman and Lynn Hall are running as independent candidates on the Sensible People Party line, but are endorsed by the St. Lawrence County Democratic Party.
