POTSDAM – Canton-Potsdam Hospital employees recently raised nearly $500 in donations for the Jules of Life Foundation.
The Jules of Life Foundation was created by Carmen and Blake Gendebien of Canton who recognized the needs of local families challenged with the travel and financial expenses of receiving pediatric cancer care.
At present, the foundation is assisting three families in the Canton and Gouverneur areas, with a fourth family, from Norwood, expected to submit their application any day.
Since its creation in 2009, the foundation has received donations of all sizes, including some from anonymous out-of-state donors.
When employees of Canton-Potsdam Hospital learned about the Foundation and its mission, they were inspired to become involved as well.
Proceeds from the foundation stay local and are used to fulfill make a wish requests, pay for hotel accommodations and gas expenses, and miscellaneous unexpected needs that families encounter when going through courses of treatments.
“I’m so very grateful to the staff at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Their support will undoubtedly help put a smile on a child’s face," said Carmen Gendebien, foundation co-chair. “I am humbled by everyone’s generosity and proud of what we are able to accomplish together.”
