CANTON -- The New York State Office of Parks and Recreations has modified the timeline to disburse funds for the county trail system, forcing legislators to modify the program's budget.

Legislators approved the resolution to modify the budget during the Nov. 13 operations committee meeting.

According to legislators, for calendar year 2023 and going forward, 70% of funds will be released in the third quarter of the State fiscal year and 30% will be released in the fourth quarter of the State fiscal year.

The New State Office of Parks and Recreations has awarded $224,568 to the St. Lawrence County Snowmobile Grant and Aid Program.

In total, %157,198 is due to the trail maintenance entities in 2023, legislators say, however the current budget of $91,911 was not sufficient.

As a result, legislators approved an additional $65,287 through the budget modification to meet that need.
