PIERREPONT – An inmate at the St. Lawrence County jail and accused rapist has been charged with four counts of violating an order of protection for reportedly using a third party to send letters to the alleged victim of crimes that landed him in jail, according to sheriff's deputies.
Joshua J. Lake, 29, formerly of Canton, was allegedly sending the letters out in other mail sealed in envelopes and having a third party forward the letters to the victim in Pierrepont, despite one temporary order of protection issued out of Pierrepont Town Court and another issued by St. Lawrence County Court Judge Jerome Richards prohibiting Lake or a third party from contacting, harassing or intimidating his victim.
Lake was brought before Pierrepont Town Justice Robert Camp and committed back to the county correctional facility on $500 cash bail.
He is already being held on $60,000 bail from county court on charges that he raped and kidnapped a woman on June 19. Those charges include three counts of first-degree rape, five counts of first-degree criminal sexual act, third-degree assault, first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree kidnapping and first-degree unlawful imprisonment.
Investigation into charging the third party continues and arrests are possible for aiding Lake.
