CANTON -- The St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency has approved a resolution reaffirming its support of the Northern Corridor Transportation Group and the Interstate 98 Corridor Project.
“We continue to support the long overdue I-98 project,” said IDA Vice Chairman Ernest LaBaff. “In order for St. Lawrence County and the North Country to be competitive in attracting and retaining businesses we need to have better access.”
The resolution, approved at the agency’s meeting on Jan. 27, says in part, that the IDA has not wavered “in its support of initiatives to improve the North Country’s transportation corridor, including the continued appropriation of Agency funds and service on the Northern Corridor Transportation Group Board.”
The resolution goes on to say that “the construction of a four-lane highway within the boundaries of St. Lawrence County will begin to address the transportation improvements necessary to foster such economic growth,” and that “the St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency strongly supports construction of a four-lane highway and strongly urges New York State to cooperate with local transportation taskforce groups to push for construction of a four-lane highway within St. Lawrence County.”
The vote was 6-0 with one voting board member absent.
