ALBANY - The New York State Conservative Party is presenting its J. Daniel Mahoney Award to St. Lawrence County Chair Henry “Hank” Ford of Colton at its 2011 Legislative Reception on Monday.

Ford, a resident of Colton, was born in the hamlet of South Colton and graduated from Colton Pierrepont Central School.

Today, he operates several successful businesses as well as residential and commercial rental properties.

After growing up working with his father’s logging and lumber mill company and serving as president of his hunting and fishing club, Ford began his involvement in public affairs as a spokesman for outdoorsmen who wanted greater public access to state lands in the Adirondacks.

His leadership on sportsmen and Adirondack issues led to his involvement in politics where he quickly rose to the vice chairmanship of the St. Lawrence County Republican Party where he served for seven years.

In 1992, he organized the St. Lawrence County Conservative Party and continues to serve as its chairperson.

Over the years he has served as:

- Supervisor of Town of Colton for 10 years

- Organized and chaired Colton Winterfest for 11 years

- Canton Junior Chamber of Commerce board of directors.

- Potsdam Rescue Squad.

- Pierrepont Fire Department.

- St. Lawrence University Hockey Booster Club Board of Directors

- Booster of the Year in 2000.

- Racquette River Sportsmen.

- Stillwater Hunting Club

- Adirondack Association of Towns and Villages

- Delegate to Adirondack Towns and Villages Association

- Board of Directors of Rooftop Highway Committee

- Helped found St. Lawrence County Snowmobile Association

- Organized and chaired Adirondack Citizens Council

- St. Patrick’s Church in Colton

- St. Patrick’s Cemetery Association Board

- Board of Directors of Rooftop Highway Committee

- Appointed by Governor George Pataki to Snowmobile Council

- 2002 honored by Adirondack Local Government Review Board for leadership on behalf of motorized recreation and tourism

- Town of Colton Citizen of the Year 2007

- 2010 honored with Torch Award by New York Conservative Party

Adirondack Life profiled Hank in 2008 under the headline “Built North country Tough.”

Hank and his wife Diane have been married for 47 years. They live on Higley Flow and have four grown children and six grandchildren.

“I am very pleased to see Hank Ford receive this statewide recognition for his hard work and dedication to the people of St. Lawrence County and Northern New York,” said State Sen. Patty Ritchie. “Hank is well known in Albany as a tireless worker and a leader of the conservative movement in upstate New York.”

“It is no small achievement when Senate Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos and Assembly Republican Leader Brian J. Kolb join the New York Conservative Party Chair Michael Long and other Conservative Party leaders in hosting an event in your honor at the Albany Room in the Empire State Plaza,” she said.
