COLTON – The 2019 Colton Winterfest will recognize James Cayey as the Colton Citizen of the Year at a spaghetti dinner Friday, Jan. 11 at the school from 4-7 p.m.

The award is given to individuals who freely share their time and talents to help friends and neighbors, said a press release from the Winterfest Planning Committee.

Cayey is well known for his service through the Colton Fire Department, Rescue Squad, and Board of Fire Commissioners, as well as his service to others through disaster assistance at multiple levels, the committee said.

“Through many years of sharing his time and talents Jim is a model for community service and involvement during good times and bad,” the committee said.

Barbara Watson, a quilter for 40 years, will be the festival’s featured quilter this year during the annual quilt show slated for Saturday, Jan. 12 and Sunday, Jan. 13.

A sampling of her quilts will be displayed at Catamount Lodge, located south of the hamlet of South Colton, along with vintage and heirloom quilts being displayed for the first time by the owners of Catamount as well as others.

At St. Patrick’s Church Parish Center on State Highway 56 in Colton near the school there will be a selection of painted barn quilts available to purchase inspired by fabric quilts embodying the festival theme which will be on display.

And at the Colton Hepburn Library on Main Street art quilts created by the Fiberistas will be showcased, including a new group quilt titled “The Elements of Nature.”

A variety of other events are planned over the three winterfest weekends. A full schedule of events has been printed in a recent edition of North Country This Week and online at NorthCountryNow.com. Event listings can also be found on the town website at www.townofcolton.com, or paper copies can be picked up at the town hall on Main Street.
