OGDENSBURG – Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Emergency Department is reconfiguring the ER space to better handle the flow of patients through the department.
Julianne Sciorra, director of emergency services at Claxton-Hepburn, said, “When construction is complete, our new Fast Track System will enable us to treat minor illnesses such as sore throats and earaches and injuries like sprained ankles or simple cuts in a specific fast track area where these patients can be treated and discharged ideally, within less than an hour. It also allows us to better utilize our advanced treatment rooms for the more acute patients.”
Other work includes making a private waiting area for families, and an improved treatment area for mental health patients. There will be a triage station staffed with a registered nurse to greet and assess patients as they enter. The department will also implement an electronic medical record system.
The construction is expected to be completed by the end of June 2011.
