Chance of rain for July 4, but rest of week should be sunny with increasing temperatures

There is a chance of rain for the Fourth of July, but most of the rest of the week looks to be sunny with increasing temperatures, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Sunshine and seasonal temperatures today and tomorrow will give way to cloudy skies, an increased chance of showers Tuesday night and Wednesday, and highs around 90 by Friday.

The chance of rain, and maybe a thunderstorm, stands at 40 percent Tuesday night, 50 percent on Independence Day, and down to 30 percent Wednesday night.

The high temperature on Friday is expected to ease off over the weekend.

The NWS forecast for the St. lawrence Valley and northwestern Adirondacks:

Today: A slight chance of showers before noon, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. West wind between 7 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 52. Light west wind.

Tuesday: Sunny, with a high near 83. Light wind becoming west between 10 and 13 mph.

Tuesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Increasing clouds, with a low around 61. South wind between 3 and 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Independence Day: A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. West wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 2am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 63. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 85.

Thursday Night: Clear, with a low around 64.

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 91.

Friday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 66.
