The 2020 Census is offering temporary jobs at good pay for this year’s count of the U.S. population, but hiring for St. Lawrence County is only at about 60 percent of the number of people they want.
“They pay a fairly good hourly rate,” said Potsdam Town Supervisor Ann Carvill, who wants people to know about the jobs. “I thought there would be many people around here – students, adults – who would be interested in making some money during the Census.”
In St. Lawrence County, the hourly pay rate for census takers in $20 per hour. Census takers also receive reimbursement for work-related mileage and expenses. Other positions have different pay rates.
Carvill said the Census “is appealing to people like us –supervisors – to get the word out that the jobs are available.”
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a valid Social Security number, be a U.S. citizen, and have a valid email address, among other requirements.
