CANTON – The Canton town and village boards are sending out a request for proposals to engineering firms for a municipal building needs assessment.
The Canton Municipal Building at 60 Main St., which houses the police department, Canton court and the town and village offices, is need of several improvements and updates, including an HVAC system upgrade, special needs access, records management storage, adequate parking, and department space needs.
The building was constructed in the 1960s after a fire in 1962 destroyed the original municipal hall.
“Hopefully we will get some good proposals back that won’t cost a lot of money,” Ashley said at a joint meeting of the two boards March 11.
“It shouldn’t cost a lot of money for somebody to tell us this building is not in great shape,” said Town Councilman Tim Danehy.
