POTSDAM — A Canton-Potsdam Hosptial doctor was charged with stealing prescription medication from patients at his office following a long investigation, according to Potsdam police.
When taken into custody, Wessel allegedly had 118 hydrocodone-acetaminophen pills on him which were not prescribed to him, officers said.
He was released on appearance tickets returnable to Potsdam court April 11, officers said.
Assisting in the investigation were New York State Office of the Attorney General Medicaide Fraud Control Unit investigations.
The investigation in ongoing and more charges are pending, police said.
Wessel has been with CPH since March of 2014 as a cardiologist.
