CANTON — Canton Police have arrested two suspects in relation to a burglary that occurred at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in the Village of Canton on Jan. 29.
According to police, both suspects allegedly stole three plaster statues and a large, brass candle holder from the chapel, valued at $28,700 total.
Police say the three plaster statues were recovered the same morning of the theft, on Jan. 29, on the St. Lawrence University campus and outside near Gunnison Memorial Chapel, each with varying degrees of damage.
Police say the large, brass candle holder was not recovered.
Charges were filed on Friday, March 10 against both suspects, police say.
Both McNeil and Adolfo were charged with third-degree burglary (D-Felony), three counts each of third-degree grand larceny (D-Felony), three counts each of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, one count each of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property (A-Misdemeanor) and three counts each of fourth-degree criminal mischief (A-Misdemeanor).
Both were arraigned in Canton Town Court and released on their own recognizance.
They are scheduled to appear in Canton Town Court on April 24 at 1:30 p.m.
