North Country This Week
CANTON – On the first day of fall the Canton Pavilion has kicked into winter mode.
Canton Recreation Director Meghan Richardson told village board members Wednesday night work has begun to prepare the ice for the upcoming skating season.
Richardson said she and recreation employees recently logged a 19-hour day to ensure the ice surface was properly laid.
The first day of public ice time is scheduled for Oct. 1.
“We may open up earlier if all goes well, but that is still up in the air,” said Richardson.
To rent ice time, the rates are available on the village website at www.cantonny.gov or by calling or emailing Richardson at (315) 386-3992 or recdirector@cantonny.gov
The pavilion now has a new front door with an American Disabilities Act (ADA) button system to be installed in the near future.
Richardson noted that work continues on the outdoor rink and sports court adjacent to the pavilion with about half of the boards completely installed.
The board also agreed to a pay increase for school crossing guards and next year’s staff at the Partridge Run Golf Course to $15 per hour.
