MASSENA -- A Canton man is jailed without bail after state police said he walked into the St. Lawrence Centre with a dolly and used it to steal pellet stoves.
Jason S. Smith, 39, was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony.
Troopers say on Dec. 21, he walked into the mall with the dolly and used them to take two pellet stoves on display at Mullarney's Garden Center. One was valued at $4,100 and the other at $3,700, troopers said.
Troopers said Smith was developed as a suspect "following a lengthy investigation."
After his arrest, he was arraigned in Norfolk Town Court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, without bail, troopers said.
Additionally, Smith is suspected in a Plattsburgh robbery where he is accused of stealing an electric stove and a generator from a tractor trailer. Troopers say they found the two pellet stoves, the electric stove and the generator at a property in Franklin County.
