CANTON – Almost one half of calls to the Canton Fire Department in December centered around bad weather with trees and wires down.
In his monthly report to the Canton Village Board, Fire Chief Robert Crowe noted the department responded to 57 calls in December; 24 of these calls occurred Dec. 16 and Dec. 17 to deal with fallen trees and wires.
Additionally, the department assisted the Hammond Fire Department during the Christmas blizzard, delivering two bundles of blankets (50 in total) the department had in storage from a previous weather incident. The blankets were delivered on Christmas Eve at 8 p.m. in what turned out to be a 3 and 1/2 hour round trip to Brier Hill.
