CANTON – Canton Central School hosts the second of two community forums on budget issues from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday evening, March 22, in the Canton High School library.

Residents of the Canton Central School District are invited to participate. The idea is to inform the board of education of citizens’ views as they craft district’s budget for next school year.

This forum on March 22 will provide community residents an opportunity to share their views regarding potential staffing and programmatic reductions that are being considered as a result of the fiscal crisis facing the district. Participants will also be able to weigh in on the roles of athletics and extracurricular activities as factors in the overall budget equation.

The district has said that, barring any unusual developments, such as increased state aid or other external factors, the district might be forced to cut dozens of positions and make serious cuts to educational and extra-curricular programs.

The first forum on March 8 focused on identifying the community’s educational values and priorities. Feedback from the forum is posted on the school’s website at www.ccsdk12.org.

All school district residents are invited to participate in the forum. All attendees are asked to review the feedback from the first forum.

People who would like to attend are asked to contact the district office via email at awaters@ccsdk12.org, or by calling 386-8561, ext. 203, on or before 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21.
