Canton Central school board approves several appointments, two leaves of absence

CANTON — The Canton Central School Board of Education recently approved several appointments and two leaves of absence.

A leave of absence were approved for teacher assistant Connie Bessette, effective from Oct. 1 through on or about Nov. 4. This is an unpaid family medical leave.

Tricia Montville was approved for a paid medical leave from Sept. 20 through Oct. 18 from her position of social studies teacher. Her leave qualifies under the Family Medical Leave Act.

Appointments that were approved included Sumerlyn Dancause, teacher aide, effective Sept. 20 through Nov. 15 at a rate of $88.88 per day; Amber Daniels, long-term substitute for social studies teacher Tricia Monteville, effective from Sept. 30 through Oct. 18 at a rate of pay of $111 per day for first 10 consecutive days, and then $230 per day. retroactively to the first 10 consecutive days.

Karyn Broadbent was appointed as a school monitor effective Sept. 25 at a rate of $11.80 per hour.

Catherine Giglio and Michele Myers were appointed as student tutors for the 2019-20 school year.

Linda Smith was approved as a long-term substitute for teaching assistant Connie Bessette through Oct. 24 at a rate of $11.80 per hour for the first 10 days and $115 per day, retroactively to the first 10 consecutive days.

Kenneth Cooper Stuntz was approved as a student lifeguard at a rate of pay of $11.80.

Mentor teachers who will earn a $500 stipend include Melinda Backus, Lindsey Fifield, Lisa Gordon, Margaret Morrill, Marka Newman, Laurey Rosser, Beverly Snyder and Alicia Wentworth.

Substitutes approved for positions for which they are certified or qualified include Karyn Broadbent, Linda Cota, Emily Fisher, Kacee French, Jennifer Greene, Miranda Hack, Debra Hartley, Lisa Martin, Taylor Miller, Cayla O’Conner, Gabriella Ward, Sabrina Whitford and Elizabeth Wilkins.
