CANTON – An Ogdensburg Police Lieutenant charged with driving while intoxicated Saturday night is no longer the coach of the varsity boy’s football team at Canton Central School.
Corey J. Maxner, 36, of Waddington, faces a DWI following a one-vehicle crash this past weekend.
“Coach Corey Maxner was placed on leave from his coaching duties with our football program due to being charged with driving while intoxicated,” said Canton Central Superintendent Ron Burke. “This leave will remain in effect while the case is investigated and the results of that investigation are considered by the Board of Education.”
Maxner was charged with first-offense driving while intoxicated after St. Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies responded to an accident with assistance from the Canton fire and rescue and state police.
Sheriff’s deputies did not include his blood-alcohol content (BAC) or accident details.
A press release issued by the City Manager Stephen Jellie stated Maxner has been suspended without pay pending an investigation.
“The City of Ogdensburg will have no further comment until this personnel matter is concluded,” Jellie said.
