CANTON -- Canton Central School Superintendent Ron Burke presented the district’s plan for the opening of interscholastic athletics.
During this presentation, the Board discussed the return of athletics in Section 10.
After much deliberation, a motion was made to approve the return of varsity soccer and varsity cross-country Sept. 21. Mergers with other districts for these specific sports were approved.
A motion was also made and approved to provide an alternative program for JV and modified athletes that will focus on skill development and conditioning.
These programs will not participate in interscholastic competition this fall, Burke said.
Athletic Director William Porter was authorized to convene a working group to develop the alternative program.
This plan will be presented to the Board during a special meeting on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 6:45. p.m. This special meeting will be conducted virtually.
