CORNWALL, Ont. -- The Canada Border Services Agency will be installing license plate readers at their interim port of entry in the City of Cornwall next week.
Beginning Sept. 14 the readers will be in each of the three primary inspection lanes. During installation, two lanes of traffic will remain open for traffic as needed.
The license plate readers capture vehicle plate numbers to provide Border Services Officers with information about the vehicle registration, ownership and passage history. BSOs have been manually keying license plate numbers into CBSA database systems. The readers were in use at the previous Cornwall Island facility.
Travellers might experience some delays during the installation.
Visit the CBSA Web site at www.cbsa.gc.ca for more information on border wait times or follow border wait times for Canada-bound traffic at the Cornwall, Ontario / Roosevelt, New York crossing on Twitter at twitter.com/search?q=%23CBSA_CWL.
