Bus driver shortage causes shift to remote learning at Parishville-Hopkinton Central

PARISHVILLE — Parishville-Hopkinton Central has shifted to temporary remote learning due to COVID-19.

Superintendent Bill Collins said at least three staff members entered into quarantine on Friday afternoon and evening. Those people were involved in the transportation department.

“Our available remaining bus drivers will be reassigned to transport students to BOCES and out-of-district programs. Information regarding BOCES transportation will be sent to the families of BOCES students,” Collins said.

Students should be able to return for in-person instruction next week, on Monday, Sept. 27.

"To-go" breakfasts and lunches will be provided from 11 a.m. to noon each day via a drive-thru pick up for enrolled students. A sign-up is available for those who are interested at bit.ly/3EAClyI .

The problem faced by Parishville is being felt at other St. Lawrence County school districts and across the nation.

Some local districts have enacted delayed pick-ups and drop-offs for students, though details on the processes being used remains vague.

Meanwhile the state has still failed to update details regarding COVID-19 cases reported in schools, despite the districts being mandated to submit them.
