Brasher teen accused of possessing brass knuckles during traffic stop

BRASHER FALLS – A Brasher Falls teenager is facing a weapons charge while a 31-year-old Brasher Falls woman faces drug charges following a traffic stop by New York State police on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old male whose name was not released was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Barbara A. Brossoit was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

According to state police, troopers were patrolling on State Route 11 in the town of Malone when he observed a 2003 grey Mitsubishi sedan with a possible expired NYS inspection sticker. he trooper searched the registration of the vehicle which revealed the inspection had expired in June of 2022. The trooper initiated a traffic stop on County Route 51, in the town of Malone, on the vehicle.

The 18-year-old male was driving the vehicle, while Brossoit was in the front passenger seat. During the interview, the trooper separated the driver and passenger because their stories were conflicting. The Trooper asked for consent to search the 18-year-old for safety reasons and during the search found brass knuckles in his right vest pocket. The trooper then conducted a search of the vehicle. On the passenger side of the vehicle where Brossoit was sitting, a pink bag was located which contained a glass smoking device with drug residue.

They were both released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Malone Court for a later date in February.
