St. Joseph’s Academy, Class of 1950 from Brasher Falls, celebrated their 72nd high school reunion in retirement in Florida.

Harry Cummings, of Lady Lake, Betty LaClair of Deland, and Jim Kelley, of the Villages, all in the 90s, remembered their graduation from the old St. Joseph’s Academy, torn down in 1957.

Administered by the Sisters of Mercy, from the early days of the 20th century, many young adults from Brasher Falls and surrounding area received their education there from grades 1 through high school.

They recalled some of their memories, such as assemblies in the League Hall, graduation trips to New York City and Coney Island, riding in Bill Crowley’s milk truck to Hannawa Falls to roller skate, playing basketball upstairs in the barn, and their annual year-ending school picnics.

Deceased class members are Paul Chambers and Joe LaBarge.

Kelley said they all claimed to be 5th in their class, until someone would ask “how many in the class?’
