CANTON -- A beekeeping barn at an apiary on Miner Street Road was destroyed by fire Friday night.
Canton firefighters and rescue squad responded at 11:19 p.m. to a call to the property of David and Francine Schroer at 638 Miner Street Road, with mutual aid from volunteers from Morley, DeKalb, Hermon, Potsdam, pyrites and Russell. Meanwhile Potsdam firefighters were on standby at Canton, West Potsdam at Morley, West Stockholm at Potsdam, Richville at DeKalb, and Lisbon volunteers stood ready at their station.
The structure was declared a total loss. It was not insured, according to investigators.
Canton firefighters were back in service at 2:52 a.m. Saturday.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
