OGDENSBURG – A fishing tournament is coming to Ogdensburg this summer.
Ogdensburg City Council unanimously agreed to pay $2,500 to host a B.A.S.S. Nation Fishing Tournament on Aug. 15.
It’s unclear how many anglers the event is expected to draw, but the single day tournament would run from 2 to 5 p.m.
Jellie said details on the event are still being worked out but he expects other activities will be planned to coincide with the event.
Ogdensburg had budgeted $50,000 for fishing tournaments but walked that back due to the uncertainty from the pandemic.
However, on Monday the full council offered support for the event. Promoting tourism, especially fishing in the city has been a focus for sometime as surrounding areas like Waddington have had great success.
Councilor Dan Skamperle said Ogdensburg needs to make sure it’s not being missed and should be the center of fishing tournaments in the area due to its location.
