48th District State Sen. Darrel Aubertine has finally conceded the recent election to St. Lawrence County Clerk and Senator-elect Patty Ritchie.
Thursday afternoon, Sen. Aubertine released the following statement:
“I am extremely grateful for the support I’ve received over the years and the opportunities I’ve been given to serve the people of the North Country for eight years and Central New York for the past two and a half years. I am proud of what we’ve accomplished working together across political divisions and I wish Senator-elect Patty Ritchie well in serving the people of Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties.”
Aubertine lost a hotly contested race that, the day after the Nov. 2 election, appeared to be a clear victory for Ritchie, who received 52 percent of the vote, but fewer than 4,000 votes separated the two candidates.
This week, counting of absentee ballots was completed, and Ritchie added slightly to her margin of victory.
