POTSDAM – The town has re-appointed Assessor James McGuire with a six-year term.

McGuire had been appointed acting assessor in July 2017 while he finished his certification to be permanent assessor, and was confirmed in the post in February 2018. His salary was set then at $40,000 per year.

Former assessor Kim Bisonette was hired as an interim assessor after former assessor James Snyder resigned and filed suit against the town with a claim of sex discrimination. The suit was dismissed in U.S. District Court in November 2018. Bisonete remained on the job to aid McGuire while he worked on his certification.

McGuire was a Triple A Building Centers manager before being hired. He has a master’s degree in finance and has been a member of the community for 30 years.
