Another half foot of snow expected today in southern St. Lawrence County

Heavy lake effect snow will continue to fall across southern and western portions of St. Lawrence County through tonight, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Northern St. Lawrence County dodged most of the storm, but the southern portion of the county, including the Gouverneur area, experienced heavy snowfall, with more snow expected through tonight.

NCTW was informed that Harrisville was hit with 21 inches of snow on Thursday with reports of flickering power and unplowed roads.

At least five St. Lawrence County schools were closed due to the storm.

Snowfall accumulation today in the southern part of the county will be 3-7 inches, with just a during in areas north of Canton, NWS says.

The extended forecast through next Friday is as follows:

A 30 percent chance of snow showers, mainly before 9am. Partly sunny, with a high near 30. West wind 10 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Partly cloudy, with a low around 13. West wind 7 to 13 mph.

Monday

A 40 percent chance of snow showers after 8am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 38. South wind 9 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

A 40 percent chance of snow showers before 8pm. Cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 18. West wind 8 to 16 mph.

Partly sunny, with a high near 36. Southwest wind around 6 mph.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 26. South wind 6 to 8 mph.

Wednesday

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 39. Southwest wind around 9 mph.
