POTSDAM -- The Adopt-A-Bear Cub mentoring program at Lawrence Avenue Elementary School has been awarded $1,500 St. Lawrence Health Initiative Creating Healthy Places to Live, Work and Play project.
The idea is to incorporate a minimum of 15 minutes of active play when the kids are at the after-school program.
Sue Pike wrote the application with help from Karen Bage of the Health Initiative. Physical education teacher Danielle Grant helped select items to be purchased with the grant funds.
The state Department of Health grant will also fund training of mentors and daily supervisors each semester about the need for active play.
